My Beautiful Laundrette

Director
Stephen Frears
Certificate
15
Running Time
97 mins

From 1985, ‘British Film Year’ (remember that?), comes Hanif Kureishi’s assault on Fatcher’s Britain (remember that too?), directed by Stephen Frears with a young Daniel Day Lewis as a former NF thug who falls for a gay Asian youth.

One hesitates to criticise the most popular film in Watershed history, but can we now admit that this was very much of its time, painfully right-on, and features some pretty ropy acting?
