McCabe and Mrs Miller

Director
Robert Altman
Certificate
15
Running Time
120 mins

Robert Altman‘s decidedly non-heroic 1971 western stars a whiskery Warren Beatty as gambler and braggart McCabe who forms an alliance with whorehouse madam Mrs Miller (Julie Christie). Alas, she remains stubbornly resistant to his amorous advances, preferring the company of her opium pipe.

Altman’s impressively bleak take on the Old West upends genre clichés, with a trio of Leonard Cohen songs adding to the general gloom. Its 50th anniversary return to the screen is part of Cinema Rediscovered.
