Teenager Ruth (Molly Windsor) gets a cleaning job in a grim out-of-season St. Ives holiday resort to be with her boyfriend Tom (Joseph Quinn). But then she finds evidence that suggests he’s having an affair. All is not what it seems, however, and Ruth’s determination to uncover the truth leads to obsession.
Claire Oakley‘s sensual, beguiling and assured feature debut is a psychological thriller that toys with genre coventions and makes excellent use of its Cornish locations. “She has taken the template of arthouse Brit realism and audaciously spiked it with some genre thrills, as if Ken Loach collaborated with Brian De Palma or Nicolas Roeg,” observed Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian.
