On a bleak yet beautiful fictional island off the coast of Scotland, a bunch of refugees – mostly young men and mostly Syrian – are stuck in limbo waiting for their asylum applications to be processed. Unable to work while the wheels of bureaucracy grind on, they’re housed in a functional hostel and subjected to ‘cultural awareness’ lessons. At the film’s heart is talented musician Omar (Amir El-Masry), who fears for his brother – still fighting in Syria – and questions his decision to leave.

Acclaimed as “superlative film-making” by The Guardian, Ben Sharrock’s multiple award-winning comedy-drama takes a humane and gently satirical look at the asylum seeker experience.
