A modish, semi-autobiographical act of movie therapy written by former child star Shia LaBeouf during a period of court-imposed rehab, offering something of an explanation as to why he behaved like such an arse for so long.
Noah Jupe and Lucas Hedges are cast as the Shia mini-me Otis at different stages of his early life, while – call a psychiatrist! – LaBeouf himself plays his toxic, abusive, deadbeat dad. This being indie drama, there’s a mandatory Manic Pixie Dream Girl – played in this instance by FKA Twigs. Who cares? Well, as Variety observed: “Ask yourself: Just how curious are you to understand the source of Shia LaBeouf’s insecurities and rage? If this is a subject of high importance to you, then you’re in luck…”
