Funeral Parade of Roses

Director
Toshio Matsumoto
Certificate
18
Running Time
105 mins

In a Tokyo gay bar, hostess Eddie (transgender actor Peter) and the drag queen Leda (Osamu Ogasawara) both lust after manager and drug dealer Gonda ( Kurosawa regular Yoshio Tsuchiya).

Very much ahead of its time, this transgressive, experimental 1969 reworking of Oedipus Rex was an open influence on Kurbrick’s A Clockwork Orange. To underline its importance as a key film in both the Japanese new wave and queer cinema, Funeral Parade of Roses has recently been restored from the original 35mm camera negative and sound elements
