Dennis Hopper‘s 1969 biker classic, which was credited with kicking off the independent film movement. Hopper and Peter Fonda hit the road from LA to New Orleans, picking up a scene-stealing Jack Nicholson along the way.
There’s a brilliant soundtrack too (Steppenwolf, The Byrds, Hendrix), which makes this a perfect choice to open the Watershed’s Era-Defining Soundtracks season, which is in turn part of Filmic 20.
