BFI London Film Festival 2021: Ali & Ava

Director
Clio Barnard
Certificate
TBA
Running Time
95 mins

Clio Barnard follows 2017’s Dark River with this Bradford-set story of a forbidden affair between British Asian Ali (Adeel Akhtar), whose marriage has become a sham, and Ava (Claire Rushbrook) – a widowed single mother of Irish heritage.

In his four-star review, The Guardian‘s Peter Bradshaw praised what he described as “a drama of autumnal love conquering the divisions of race, the disillusionments of middle age, the discomfort of parenthood and grandparenthood, and the tensions of class.”
