WITCH: We Intend to Cause Havoc

Director
Gio Arlotta
Certificate
12A
Running Time
89 mins

Led by Emanuel ‘Jagari’ Chanda, who took his nickname from Mick Jagger, WITCH (We Intend to Cause Havoc) were pioneers of Zamrock – a fiery, funky fusion of psychedelic rock with African rhythms – back in the 1970s. But they fell victim to Zambia’s political turmoil: ecomomic collapse, an AIDS epdidemic, authoritarian government, etc. Jagari himself became a gemstone miner.

Very much in the tradition of Searching for Sugarman and Anvil! The Story of Anvil, Gio Arlotta’s irresistible documentry tells WITCH’S extraordinary story and sets out to track down the original members to play for a new generation of fans on a European tour.
