Casper, Desean, and Krystal are queer and trans youths of colour who find themselves homeless after coming out to their families, and find community and a chosen family around New York City’s Christopher Street Pier.

Director Elegance Bratton knows this milieu intimately, being gay and a former pier kid himself. Shot over the course of five years, his raw and intimate documentary sets out to explore what it means to be black and queer 50 years on from Stonewall. “The subjects of Pier Kids live in a perpetual state of precariousness,” noted the Hollywood Reporter. “In calling attention to their struggles, Bratton honours their endurance and celebrates their existence.”
