Phil Lynott: Songs For While I’m Away

Director
Emer Reynolds

The real surprise here is why it’s taken so long for this irresistible tale to reach the screen. Songs For While I’m Away is the story of how a working class mixed-race boy from 1950s Dublin grew up to become Ireland’s greatest, most charismatic rock star. The late, great Thin Lizzy frontman’s story is in safe hands here, as Grierson-nominated Irish feature documentary director Emer Reynolds‘ CV includes Here Was Cuba and The Farthest.

Her intimate Phil Lynott doc includes contributions from Thin Lizzy’s Eric Bell, Scott Gorham and Darren Wharton, plus Adam Clayton of U2, Suzi Quatro, Huey Lewis, Metallica’s James Hetfield and Ultravox’s Midge Ure.
