Bristol Film Festival: The Death of Stalin

Director
Armando Iannucci
Certificate
15
Running Time
107 mins

Now that modern western politics is seemingly beyond satire, The Thick of It, In the Loop and Veep creator Armando Iannucci heads east and back in time to 1953 in search of larfs.

Adapted from Fabien Nury and Thierry Robin‘s graphic novel of the same title, The Death of Stalin explores the political chaos after Joseph Stalin carked it and the subsequent jostling for power by those with very different agendas. The classy British and American cast includes Steve Buscemi as Nikita Khrushchev, Jeffrey Tambor as Stalin’s heir apparent Georgy Malenkov, Michael Palin as Vyacheslav Molotov, Olga Kurylenko as Maria Yudina and Andrea Riseborough as Svetlana Stalin.

It’s back on screen in Bristol Film Festival‘s Underground Cinema season of films in Redcliffe Caves. Go here for tickets.
