A mouse running across a courtroom causes a shy, inexperienced lawyer called Frémissi to lose a case – and almost to lose his lovely fiancée, Cécile. Deux timides? Yep, the other one is his prospective father-in-law, M. Thibaudier.
Lavishly restored by Cinémathèque Française, this sublime 1928 René Clair romp – his final silent film – is actually based on a wordy Labiche-Michel farce. Clair skilfully removes any need for dialogue to produce a silent comedy classic. This Slapstick Festival screening is introduced by film historian Kevin Brownlow and features live musical accompaniment by Guenter A. Buchwald, Romano Todesco and Frank Bockius.
