Slapstick 2019: Dad’s Army

Director
Norman Cohen
Certificate
U
Running Time
95 mins

By no means the worst of the big-screen makeovers of classic British sitcoms, this 1971 Dad’s Army flick united (virtually) all of the original cast for an origin storyline that saw the Nazis invade Walmington-on-Sea. It was made between the third and fourth series of the evergreen TV show and went on to become the fifth biggest hit at the UK box office in the year of its release.

This Slapstick Festival screening is followed by More Tea Vicar? – a separate event in which Frank Williams (aka the vicar) revisits his stage and screen career in conversation with author, entertainer and producer Chris Gidney. This includes a rare opportunity to see Frank’s home movies of the Dad’s Army cast on tour. Go here for tickets to the screening and here for tickets for More Tea Vicar? You can get a discount if you attend both events.
