The film that paved the way for Buster Keaton‘s materpiece, The General, this 1926 comedy was the one he cited as his favourite. Buster plays lily-livered fop Alfred Butler who’s sent to the woods to toughen up, only to find himself mistaken for a prize-fighter by mountain girl Sally O’Neil. Walloping ensues as Buster demonstrates his physical comedy chops
This Slapstick Festival screening includes an introduction by film editor and PhD student of Keaton’s filmmaking, Polly Rose (University of Bristol) and live musical accompaniment by Guenter A. Buchwald and Frank Bockius.
