Director
Mari Okada, Toshiya Shinohara
Certificate

Running Time
114 mins

Maquia is from a clan in the land of Lolph who stop aging in their mid-teens, which is nice. But alas, she’s rather lonely. When an army bent on learning the secret of immortality invades, she’s forced to flee. Along the way, she finds an abandoned boy and decides to raise him. But this presents certain complications when he ages and she doesn’t.

The directorial debut of Mari Okada, who’s been described as one of the most talented women working in anime, Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms received its international premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival earlier this year and now gets a limited nationwide release.
