Big Trouble in Little China

Director
John Carpenter
Certificate
15
Running Time
99 mins

A massive flop on release back in the eighties, John Carpenter‘s self-styled “action/adventure/comedy/kung/fu/ghost sotry/monster movie” was his fourth collabroation with Kurt Russell (after Escape from New York, The Thing and that Elvis TV movie).

One of a slew of movies that appeared in the wake of Raiders of the Lost Ark, it’s a truly bizarre mash-up with Russell’s trucker encountering every Chinese cliche known to man in a supernatural battle beneath the streets of Chinatown. These days, we are encouraged to appreciate it as a ‘cult classic’, though no doubt the mooted remake will be a tad more, ahem, culturally sensitive.
