Totterdown subsidence closes stretch of road

By Bristol24/7  Monday Jan 5, 2015

A stretch of road near the Star and Dove pub in Totterdown has been closed off due to subsidence of a building

The section of road that is closed is between St John’s Lane and Hill Avenue. It is understood that part of the pavement has subsided, making it unsafe. Avon & Somerset police were called last night at 7pm by Avon Fire & Rescue. It is likely that the part of the road will be closed for the rest of the day.

Subsidence occurs when downward movement of the ground causes the movement of building foundations. The three main causes of subsidence are the age of the building, the underlying soil and proximity of trees and shrubs.
