Theatregoers help support Bristol’s homeless

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Feb 1, 2018

Themes of homelessness ran throughout the Christmas production of The Little Matchgirl at Bristol Old Vic, so it was fitting that audiences at the show helped to raise money for a charity that works with homeless people in Bristol.

In total, theatregoers raised £23,270 for St Mungo’s, with the Old Vic’s front of house team recently visiting the charity’s Compass Centre on Jamaica Street in Stokes Croft to see the work that takes place there.

Bristol Old Vic producer Catherine Morgenstern said: “The outpouring of generosity from Bristol families showed the real need people felt to take some immediate positive action and dig deep after each performance to raise this huge sum for the local charity.”

St Mungo’s fundraising regional manager Kat Lacy said that the public response has been “overwhelming”, with the money raised supporting projects such as their Night Shelter which offers a safe bed for the night.
