‘Spellbinding’ drone light show returning to Bristol

By Meg Davies  Tuesday Jul 2, 2024

Following sell-out drone light shows in Bristol in winter, a new festive show is set to dazzle audiences at Christmas.

A Christmas Carol will be reimagined as a cinematic light show in the sky, using innovative drone technology by the light artists behind Eurovision 2023 and London New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Visitors are invited to journey through Christmas’s past, present and future with “stunning visuals of the miserly Scrooge and Christmas festivities”.

Organisers said: “This immersive epic-scale event uses hundreds of drones in the night sky, fusing cutting-edge technology and creativity to spark the imagination and stir the soul.”

The drone formations are described by creators as “a safe and carbon-neutral alternative to traditional fireworks”.

John Hopkins, Celestial’s founder and CEO, said: “A Christmas Carol is a beloved tale that has been endlessly retold across various genres.

“This time, it is uniquely presented through drone art, elevating it beyond a traditional drone light show to an epic, stadium-scale experience.

“This innovative artistic medium brings audiences together through a shared sense of wonder to celebrate a universal story of human transformation.”

The show takes place at Seat Unique Stadium on December 19 and 20, with an early and late showing at 2.30pm and 7pm.

The event offers an introduction to the drone technology before the main performance, with a live DJ set after and a “food village”.
