Rooftop swimming pool for historic Guildhall

By Bristol24/7  Friday Jun 12, 2015

Updated plans to convert the historic Guildhall into a £10 million luxury hotel with a rooftop swimming pool have been revealed.

The Grade II* listed building and the adjacent Grade I listed Bank of England on Broad Street will be transformed with a new walkway opened up leading to Small Street.

The Guildhall, built in 1843, has been empty since the county court relocated to Redlcliffe in 2011. The Bank of England building dates back to 1848.

The new hotel will have 92 bedrooms, a restaurant and entrances on both streets. A rooftop extension will give high-end rooms views of the city and create space for a pool and spa.

The proposals are being put forward by developers The Osborne Group, a specialist in renovations, based in Bath. Designs are being developed by architects from Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.

There is a public exhibition and consultation being held at St Nicholas Market until Sunday, June 14. The Osborne Group will use feedback from the public to finalise their designs before submitting them to the council.

More information on the consultation is available at www.bristolguildhall.wordpress.com.
