Mapping Bristol’s most popular cycling routes

Journeys made by bicycle in Bristol have been mapped out in stunning detail.

The blue lines above and below criss-crossing Bristol show cycling routes. The most popular routes are shown thicker and brighter.

And the cyclists taking their lives into their own hands traversing around the Bearpit roundabout below?

The heatmaps are from Strava’s End of Year Insights, which includes nearly 11 million runs and more than 23 million cycle rides made in the UK in 2015.

Cyclists turn on the Strava app on mobile phones, which then acts like a GPS tracker during their journeys.
