Expansion works starts at St George’s
Work has begun at St George’s to transform it into a world-class concert venue.
“Today is an amazing day for us because we are finally starting the creation of this new building, six years after we first had this idea, said St George’s chief executive Suzanne Rolt.

– Creating new and inviting entrances
– Enabling full and unhindered access to the hall for the first time
– A new garden facing cafe/bar
– New foyer, box office and flexible multi-purpose spaces
– Improved backstage facilities for artists and staff
– New lettable spaces for workshops, education, performances, and private hire
– New gallery space for permanent and visiting exhibitions
– Greatly improved cloakroom and toilet provision
– Restoration and opening up of the 19th century gardens
“It’s all about creating space where you can pop in during the daytime or evening, drink and eat in the new cafe, and use the new áreas,” Rolt added.
“Everything is about transforming the St George’s experience.”
The £6m cost of the project has been raised from private donors as well as the Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery Fund and Bristol City Council.
The works carried out by Midas Construction hope to finish in spring 2018.
