Children’s services in Bristol have significantly improved
Children’s services at Bristol City Council have significantly improved according to a new report by Ofsted inspectors.
The report says the service demonstrates “a readiness to learn and to continuously develop services and the responses provided to children”; “multi-agency partnership working has been strengthened, and the timeliness and consistency of child protection strategy meetings is much improved”; and that the leadership team has “shown energy and commitment to improving the response provided to children by frontline services”.
Inspectors who came to Bristol in February said that since their previous visit in 2023, the “stable and ambitious leadership team has positively strengthened workforce culture, and their relationship-based systemic model of practice”.
Both council officers and councillors are praised, saying that “determined leaders, including elected members, have shown energy and commitment to improving the response provided to children”.
Chair of the children & young people committee at Bristol City Council, Christine Townsend, said: “This latest report from Ofsted demonstrates the improvements made in Children’s Services since their last visit in 2023.
“The hard work and dedication of officers at all levels of the service is delivering improved responses for children and families.
“What we can clearly see from the feedback received is a recognition of the solid foundation that has been built that we all have a role in translating into timely, appropriate, compassionate and above all, meaningful support for those children and families in need.”
