Children’s bus fares to be frozen

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Mar 12, 2025

Children’s bus fares will be kept at £1 instead of rising to £1.30 under a number of initiatives unveiled by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority for buses in the Bristol region.

Other plans are to extend disabled person’s travelcards so that buses are now free 24 hours a day rather than just after 9am; extend care leavers’ free bus travel for another year; and cap the cost of multi-operator day bus tickets in the region at £7 instead of that fare rising to £8.

The new initiatives are likely to come in from April and run alongside the existing birthday bus scheme.

Metro mayor Dan Norris, whose term of office ends in May, said these initiatives “will help keep more money in people’s pockets and help make it that bit easier for local people to get around by bus”.

Norris added: “That’s better for passengers, better for congestion and better for our planet.”
