Bus services cancelled as operator ceases trading

By Milan Perera  Monday Jul 15, 2024

A number of bus services in Bristol remain uncertain as bus company Transpora has stopped operating.

Some services have been completely cancelled while others have been taken on by other operators.

Service 25 will be operated by Stagecoach while services 23, 60, X10 and X91 will be run by the Big Lemon.

However, services 90, 925 and N2 will not be operating.

Dan Norris, leader of WECA and newly elected MP for North East Somerset  & Hanham, said that he is “aware” of the situation.

He said: “I’m aware some Transpora bus services have been suspended and my officers are working for arrangements to ensure that as many services as possible run as normal, and passengers are affected as little as possible.”

Responding to Norris’ message, one X user said: “In London, where they have franchising, when a private bus operating company suspends their bus services.

“That is when a publicly owned bus company takes over the bus services.”

WECA has expressed its interest in franchising for a while and the metro mayor Dan Norris met with the Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham who successfully implemented franchising in Manchester.

Both Transpora and WECA have been approached for comment.
