Bicy-cull at Bristol Temple Meads
Rows of bikes in all shapes and sizes will be a familiar sight to commuters entering Temple Meads.
But cyclists taking advantage of the station’s free parking for long periods of time are being warned to move their two-wheeled steed by the end of the month, or lose it forever.
Network Rail is carrying out a cull of bikes that have overstayed their welcome on the platform – a measure the company says is necessary in order to free up much-needed space.

Station staff have placed notices on offending bikes advising owners to collect them and warning that any cycles remaining by January 31 will be removed and donated to charity.
“Network Rail want to provide the best possible experience for passengers using the station and that means ensuring all our bike spaces are available and not taken up by abandoned bikes, or those stored here for extended periods,” said Andy Phillips, Network Rail station manager.
Any bike left with the notice still attached will have its lock cut and will be removed from the racks. The company has warned passengers it won’t be held responsible for damaged locks.
This is not the first time Network Rail has carried out a cull of bikes and the latest action comes in the midst of major changes to improve Temple Meads.
People wishing to reclaim bikes that have been removed and held in storage are advised to speak to station staff before January 31.
