By Lily Newton-Browne  Monday May 22, 2017

A gun was pulled on a member of staff after a ram-raid attack at the Co-op on the Pigsty Hill section of Gloucester Road.

Bystander Richard Maxwell told Bristol24/7 that he heard a loud bang and saw that a silver Peugeot 405 had rammed through the front glass doors of the shop at around 11pm on Sunday night.

Richard said that he saw the cashier threatened with a gun to his head before the attacker dropped the weapon and then struck the worker with a hammer.

Richard was able to give first aid to the cashier shortly after the event before the police arrived.

Avon & Somerset Police are currently searching for four men who were wearing dark hooded tops and scarves across their faces on Sunday evening.

The men took large quantities of tobacco and also money from the till.

Two of the four men left in a dark coloured BMW 3 Series saloon, which the police are still looking for.

A statement from the Sothern Co-Op said: “We can confirm that support is being provided to the colleagues affected. The security and safety of our customers and colleagues remains paramount to Southern Co-op at all times.”

Police are willing any witnesses to this incident to come forward by calling 101 and quoting crime reference number 5217113695.
