No alcohol in reopened – and now closed – pub
A recently reopened pub has had to close its doors for at least a week due to a problem with its license.
The Hope & Anchor on Jacob’s Wells Road is shut until at least next Wednesday, February 18.
“Yeah, no booze,” says a notice pinned to the front door. “Like dry January, but not a month, and not January.”
The closure is due to an administration issue with a licensing form, meaning that when the pub reopened last month under new owner Pete Gibbs, it seems that it might not have been allowed to serve alcohol.
Gibbs even took to Twitter saying that “if licensing had let me, I would have given beer away for free”.
But alas, no chance, so the pub is shut until the problem is sorted.
The note continues: “We apologise for any inconvenience, we’re pretty upset right now as well. At least we get a get day off (sic) after working so hard since early Jan. Suppose that’s a silver lining right?”
