Poet capturing ‘cultures and perspectives that shape fabric of local life’
As a corner of south Bristol undergoes rapid change, a poet is exploring its “shifting identity” during an eight-month residency.
Leeza Awojobi is capturing “the cultures and perspectives that shape the fabric of local life” in Bedminster Green.
The ‘Common Threads’ project invites people to reflect on what makes the area unique through poetry, gatherings and conversations.

Informal ‘social gifting experiences’ are also hoping to bring neighbours together “to exchange views, experiences and histories”.
Textile artist Zoe Gibbons and illustrator Yoli Ward-Streeter are responding to these conversations through “collaborative making”.
Common Threads has been commissioned by Ginkgo Projects and funded by developers Watkin Jones, with support from Bristol City Council.
A showcase on October 15 at Windmill Hill City Farm will experience the work and ideas gathered during the residency, including new poetry by Awojobi. For free tickets, visit hdfst.uk/e137939
