George Clooney and Julia Roberts brought the romcom audience scampering back to cinemas in droves for Ticket To Paradise at the weekend, pipping Olivia Wilde’s follow-up to Booksmart, Don’t Worry Darling, which made history by enjoying the widest ever opening for a female-directed film in the UK. Both films contributed to a huge box office boost after that quiet QE2 funeral weekend. The re-release of Avatar in anticipation of the upcoming first sequel added another £1.2m to its tally, forcing last week’s chart topper See How They Run into fourth place. Also taking a tumble was Bullet Train, falling from second to ninth place after a brief resurgence. But, as predicted, Bowie doc Moonage Daydream benefited from a much wider release in its second week, climbing to number five. But could it finally be farewell to Top Gun: Maverick as the Tom Cruise action sequel drops to the foot of the chart after nearly 20 weeks?
