Decidedly mixed reviews couldn’t stop DC’s Shazam! spin-off Black Adam becoming the latest superhero flick to top the chart. Its £5.6m haul makes this one the UK’s biggest opener since Thor: Blood and Thunder back in July. Martin McDonagh’s lauded The Banshees of Inisherin had to settle for second place, its takings so far a little behind those of his Oscar winning Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. In sixth place, Decision to Leave, South Korean director Park Chan-wook’s follow-up to his brilliant The Handmaiden, was the only other new entry this week. Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile cemented its position as the half-term family hit, with just a modest drop in takings, while Halloween Ends dropped from second to fifth place. Universal will no doubt be hoping for a seasonal uplift in the latter’s performance next week.
