Chart copyright Comscore

No surprises this week as Top-Gun: Maverick grabbed nearly £16m, becoming Tom Cruise’s biggest opener at the UK box office. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was firmly booted into second place, but still took an additional £1.4m and retains the crown of 2022’s biggest opener (£19.8m). Those who prefer their movies a little quieter turned up in rather smaller numbers to see Everything Everywhere All At Once and Downton Abbey: A New Era, but both films continue to tick over pretty well. Disney family animation The Bob’s Burger’s Movie was the only new release to take on Tom Cruise and managed to secure a spot in the top five. Further down the chart, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 finally reached £25m after nine weeks and The Lost City broke the £10m barrier after seven weeks. We can expect little change next week, Top Gun‘s next challenge being the release of Jurassic World: Dominion on June 10.
