Chart copyright Comscore

No surprises this week as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness enjoys a second week at the top, despite a 60% drop in its takings. Disney won’t be too concerned as the sequel has reaped £30m in two weeks and has already far out-performed the original film. Further down the chart, milestones were reached as Downton Abbey: A New Era hit £10m after three weeks and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore breached the £20m barrier after six weeks. The only new release to make any impact was Everything Everywhere All At Once, which entered at number three. Little Mix’s hedge-betting The Final Show (For Now . . .) managed to grab a place in the top five too, which isn’t bad going for an event cinema screening. The big flop of the week was that wholly unwarranted remake of Firestarter. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange should notch up one more week at the top, as distributors are clearing the decks in preparation for the next blockbuster, Top Gun Maverick, which opens on May 27.
