So are punters staying away from cinemas in droves because of the coronavirus scare? Truth is, it’s difficult to tell. It was a fairly quiet weekend at the box office, but then there were no blockbuster releases. Onward comfortably topped the chart with £3.4m, which is fairly low by Pixar standards. That said, original, non-sequel feature animations never take as much as your Toy Story 4s. And in second place The Invisible Man is on course to become one of Blumhouse’s top ten UK box office successes, comfortably holding off the challenge from the Britcom feelgoodery of Military Wives. Dropping to fifth place, Oscar winner Parasite has now claimed the record previously held by Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ to become the highest grossing non-English language release of all time at the UK box office. Flop of the weekend was romance The Photograph, which took a hopeless £29,671 nationwide.
