Eager nippers and besuited, social media-driven teenage delinquents joined forces to propel Minions: The Rise of Gru to the top of the chart, reducing the King’s reign to just one week as Elvis slipped to second place. Despite all that invaluable tabloid hype, this second standalone Minions flick opened £1m behind its 2015 predecessor. But it has comprehensively won the battle of the summer family animations, taking more in three days than Pixar’s Lightyear managed in three weeks. Top Gun: Maverick held up well and continues its slow climb up the UK all-time chart, in which it currently sits in 16th place. Jurassic World: Dominion, by contrast, is continuing to slip. But at least it reached the £30m mark this week.
