The Marvel factory continues to hurl that shit at the wall. Despite damning reviews (“atrociously lazy” reckoned The Times), the third Ant-Man movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, comfortably topped the chart and out-performed its predecessors with an £8m opening weekend. Whether punters will continue to flock remains to be seen. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was pushed into second place, despite increasing its takings slightly with a half-term boost. Also doing well from half-term was rival animation Epic Tails, presumably benefiting from all those kids who’d already seen the animated cat. Avatar: The Way of Water continues to fade slowly even as it ascends the all-time chart. It’s just overtaken Toy Story 3 to bag 12th place. The BAFTA awards came too late to register, but next week we’ll find out whether they’ve had any impact on ticket sales.
