Of all those fads that gripped at least some of the nation during the collective madness of lockdown, surely none was dafter than that brief obsession with sea shanties. Given that formulaic Britcom Fisherman’s Friends had opened in second place just behind Captain Marvel with nearly £1.2m back in March 2019, the producers must have thought they were onto a winner with the equally formulaic sequel, Fisherman’s Friends: One and All, which was poised to cash in on this peculiar phenomenon. Alas, TikTok-era attention spans being what they are, punters have moved on to whatever’s trending this week and the sequel’s opening weekend haul was half that of the first film. It also failed to make the top five, having been beaten by niche anime fantasy Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Jordan Peele’s Nope remained firmly at the top, and was also the only film to take more than £1m at the weekend. Further down the chart, Minions: The Rise of Gru joined the £40m club after eight weeks on release, while Top Gun: Maverick is closing on £80m.
