Jordan Peele scored his first UK chart topper with the well received Nope, though its £1.8m opening was behind that of his previous films as director, Get Out and Us. That’s because the tail end of the heatwave finally caused cinemagoers to melt away. Indeed, Nope was the only film to haul in more than £1m over a weekend that saw takings slump to their lowest level in months. The only other new entry was Laal Singh Chaddha. “What’s that, then?” I hear you ask. An Indian remake of Forrest Gump, that’s what. Further down the chart, Top Gun: Maverick continued its agonisingly slow crawl towards usurping Titanic in the UK all-time top ten. Meanwhile, Prima Facie is up to a remarkable £3.6m after five weeks on release, making it NT Live’s biggest box office hit since Fleabag back in pre-pandemic 2019.
