By Joanna Papageorgiou  Thursday Feb 12, 2015

A Bristol author who shared a flat with actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost has written her debut novel.

Rebecca Stone is the pseudonym of self-help expert Becky Walsh, originally from Burnham-on-Sea. Cupcakes and Coffee is her fictional memoir based on some real-life events.

It also features Bristol locations including 20th Century Flicks and Hyde & Co.

The novel, praised as a mix of Bridget Jones, Eat Pray Love and Fifty Shades of Grey, is published by Bristol’s Silverwood Books, and will launch at Foyles in Quakers Friars on Friday, February 13.

“Simon was always telling Nick that he would write a sitcom that would allow Nick to stop being a waiter at Chiquitos,” Walsh recalls.

“Simon had a really strong vision. I think I may have scoffed a little. I was of the mindset that these things only happen to the very lucky and the very hard-working.

“Now when I see their faces on the side of a bus as I wait at the bus stop I am reminded that anything is possible! And that, one day, I might think nothing of the financial consequences of jumping in a taxi.”

Coffee and Cupcakes launches at Foyles on Friday, February 13 at 6pm. For more information, visit www.foyles.co.uk/events
