Mockingbird Cafe

“I love Bristol’s independent coffee houses. I got my visa to work in America by volunteering to green up coffee houses there. San Francisco has a kind of ‘coffee class’ war between shops. The branded cup you carry says something about your taste. I see Bristol heading that way. Mockingbird on Alma Vale Road in Clifton does great coffee and serves US Deep South-style food.”

The hot air balloons over Bristol

“The balloons are one of the reasons I moved back to Bristol after 20 or so years away. The first time I lived here I was in my early twenties. I got involved with a crack and heroin addict and witnessed some of the rougher aspects of Bristol back then. From the attic flat I lived in, the balloons I saw in the morning through a tiny sky light filled me with the feeling there was more to life. Really uplifting, literally!”

Bristol Old Vic

“I did work experience here on a show called The Clandestine Marriage with Timothy West. It was here I decided to become a stage manager. After 15 years working all over the West End, I still don’t think I have worked in a theatre more special than this one. But maybe you always love your first!”

Victoria Square

Victoria Square

“I love walking through here with my dog. Especially as the leaves are changing colour and you can kick your way through them. It was on this strip I decided to move back to Bristol. Typical I make that decision in one of the most expensive areas in the city to live!”

Everyman Cinema

“I just love the Everyman Cinema. The big seats with so much leg room that you don’t have to pick up your bag for someone to walk past you to their own seat, the speech before the show starts, and the lovely bar. This is a fantastic place to watch a film. I didn’t visit it when it was open the first time but it has been well worth the wait for the reopening.”
