Director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot reunite for a Cold War-era (hence the title) sequel to their well-received 2017 Wonder Woman flick. That was the first DC Extended Universe film to qualify for an F-Rating, being directed by and starring a woman. Perhaps more importantly for Mr. Warner and his brothers, it also made an absolute fortune at the global box office (except in Lebanon, where it was banned because of its star’s Israeli military service).
Wonder Woman 1984 is actually Gadot’s fourth outing in the WW costume, but we won’t mention the rotten Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or Justice League if you don’t. This time, everybody’s favourite tightly costumed immortal demigoddess takes on two foes: feline frenemy Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah (Kristen Wiig) and dastardly, sleazy tycoon Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal), who’s inspired in part by Donald Trump. Predicted White House Twitter response: FAKE NEWS. SAD. FAILING FILM. LOSERS.
