One of the few interesting things about this origin fantasy is that it managed to outrage US racists who were appalled by its colour-blind casting. It’s a mash-up of Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan, in which eight-year-old Alice (Keira Chansa) and mischievous Peter (Jordan A. Nash) are siblings who experience a bereavement that shapes their lives. David Oyelowo and Angelina Jolie are cast as their parents.
It all seems reasonably promising, but reviews were mostly negative. The Guardian’s one-star slating dismissed the film as “an indigestible lump of kid-lit stodge”.
