Those who don’t spend their lives glued to consoles may be forgiven for wondering whether this isn’t a little late for the Sega computer game franchise to reach the big screen. Sony acquired the rights back in 2013, but the live-action/CGI film has undergone a long and convoluted production process. What’s more, it nearly fell at the last hurdle with a Cats-style overwhelmingly negative fan reaction to the first trailer.
The speedy hog has now been completely redesigned so he doesn’t tumble into uncanny valley. Ben Schwartz voices the unusually-hued spiny mammal, while Jim Carrey is cast as the antagonist, Dr. Robotnik.
