Running Time

David Fincher‘s first feature since Gone Girl is a much-acclaimed, swooningly nostalgic, beautifully shot monochrome Hollywood golden age drama about the creation of Citizen Kane.

The focus here is on alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz (Gary Oldman) rather than director Orson Welles (Tom Burke) as the bleary-eyed old cynic navigates Tinseltown corruption on the path to co-creating a masterpiece. Oldman gives a brilliant performance in the lead role, which is certain to attract the attention of gong-givers. But watch out for Clevedon’s very own, ever-impressive Tuppence Middleton as Mankiewicz’s long-suffering spouse.
