In his parallel career as a documentary filmmaker, Ron Howard follows his Pavarotti and the excellent The Beatles: Eight Days a Week with this powerful portrait of the resilience of the residents of the eponymous Californian town, which was devasted by wildfire back in 2018.
“Rebuilding Paradise might easily have blazed with righteous fury, but its conclusions are quieter and bleaker,” noted The Guardian. “There are big societal, historical and pyrogeographical reasons why such disasters now happen with increasing frequency. But none of that is the fault of these good people.”
