Tax The Heat interview

By Laura Williams  Thursday Nov 27, 2014

Bristol’s rising stars you say? Tell us about your journey so far…

Well, the journey is a year and a half in and it has been a hell of a ride. This year in particular has been insane. We got to play in front of ten thousand people at download, support Aerosmith, tour with Black Star Riders (Thin Lizzy), Graveltones, Virginmarys and we have more touring in December. All of this and none of the tours have passed through our hometown, hence The Exchange show. We got together to make music we are passionate about and put on the best live show we can, it has been truly amazing building a following and getting to play all over.

What does Bristol mean to you?

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

It’s our home. It’s everything. Bristol and the southwest is the heart beat of the band. It’s an inspiring place to be and has a wealth of talented people living in an around it. Almost everyday something incredible is happening.

What’s your favourite local venue and why?

My favourite venue not only locally but nationally has to be the Bristol O2. I’ve seen so many bands there over the years. It always sounds amazing, is big enough for an amazing atmosphere and small enough to really see whats going on in front of you.

Did you learn anything on tour with The Graveltones?

That those Australians can drink! It was a pleasure to tour with The Graveltones, they are the nicest guys and the most welcoming people you could imagine. Watching them everyday really made us push ourselves. They certainly bring it!

What can we expect from your live show?

It’s all about the energy. We want to bring you into our world. All the classic bands had an amazing live presence. No click tracks, no miming just rock n rollers playing at the top of their game. You will leave humming a song even if you’ve never heard the band before.

What would be your dream bill to play on?

One of my dream bills was supporting Aerosmith and we’ve already accomplished that. For me it has to be AC/DC next! Though I’d also say right now I’d love to see Tax The Heat jump on a bill with Queens Of The Stone Age or The Foo Fighters, they’re the biggest bands on the planet at the moment.

Your single ‘Fed to the Lions’…who would you like to see fed to the lions?

I would like to see Cameron, Miliband, Farage and Clegg all fed to the lions. They are all useless two faced scum bags who do not have the interest of the people with them. Politicians generally, I guess. People, on the whole are good, we care about each other and support one another. It feels like politicians are killing society. Wow, that’s pretty heavy.

Tell us something about you we won’t know…

I played the guitar part on the theme tune for BBC program Episodes staring Matt Le Blanc.

Tax The Heat play Exchange on Saturday November 29. More information at: www.taxtheheat.com
