New ‘records and things’ shop opening

By Ursula Billington  Tuesday Sep 9, 2025

DJ and promoter Nathan Worm has announced he’ll be putting down roots just off Gloucester Road.

His new venture, Hot Wax, is due to open at the beginning of October on Sommerville Road in the former Disk Frisk space in the Old Drumbank Studios.

Predominantly a vinyl record shop, it will also sell prints, t-shirts, hats and accessories. The onsite cafe, built over the last year almost entirely from reclaimed materials, is now open Thursday to Sunday serving coffee from Easton’s Radical Roasters.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!

Nathan Worm founded the notorious Worm Disco Club nights that brought the Comet is Coming to the Jam Jar just two weeks before the band’s Mercury Prize nomination.

He has run countless events in Bristol’s independent venues over the past ten years including hosting live bands such as Shabaka Hutchings, WITCH, Colin Stetson and corto.alto, DJs from Coco Maria to Jamz Supernova, Nikki Nair and Red Rack’em and more recently acts such as London Elektricity and Peshay.

His revivalist d’n’b night Slippin’ has grown steadily over the last year, finding a regular home at the Jam Jar where the next event will take place on October 24.

Nathan is launching the shop with a 12 hour ‘dig and dance’ on Saturday, October 11, with six hours of browsing followed by six hours of “DJ sets, dancing, drinks and more!”

He said he is “a little bit nervous but this definitely feels like something I can put my own stamp on.

“Hot Wax is going to stock a concise yet eclectic range of music from quality electronic to global grooves to psych and classic rock plus some bargain bins and music centric prints, clothing, DJ accessories and of course great coffee!”
