Last Man Standing – World Premiere + Q&A
Nick Broomfield returns to Biggie & Tupac territory with the definitive story of Death Row Records
If the nation’s blokey-blokes can tear themselves away from the bloody football and/or the pub this week, they’ll find cinemas are also catering to their post-lockdown needs with saturation screenings of ludicrous car chases wrapped around a gossamer-thin ‘plot’. That’s right: Fast & Furious 9 is upon us.
Mercifully, other options are available. Harry Macqueen’s gay dementia drama Supernova is getting a wide release. Down at the Watershed, it’s screening with a couple of short films to launch this year’s Queer Vision – Bristol Pride’s film festival. Also at the Watershed, Sweat is a timely exploration of the empty life of an ‘influencer’.
On the event cinema front, there’s another chance to see the IDLES film Don’t Go Gentle, with a filmmaker Q&A, plus the world premiere of Nick Broomfield’s Suge Knight documentary Last Man Standing.
A brace of fine reissues arrive this week too: the evergreen Some Like It Hot and Shaft, the latter returning to the big screen at the Everyman to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
