The Croods 2: A New Age
Belated sequel to the 2013 computer animated caveman adventure
Cinemas to be taking a cautious approach to, ahem, ‘Freedom Day’. The industry has maintained that not a single covid case has been traced back to a cinema and clearly intends to keep it that way. Many are increasing capacity – and the number of screenings – from Monday, but with plenty of protective measures still in place. The Showcase chain, for example, has confirmed that an unoccupied single space will be left between parties of punters. All staff will continue to wear facemasks and customers are ‘recommended’ to do so. Using stronger language, the Watershed will continue to ‘require’ facemasks to be worn, but intends to increase cinema capacity from 25% to 50% from July 28.
It’s not exactly a vintage week for new releases. But fans of family flick and horror sequels are in luck as we have a brace of each: Space Jam: A New Legacy and The Croods: A New Age for the kiddies and The Forever Purge and Escape Room: Tournament of Champions for sickos. Alternative choices include concert film Summer of Soul and the decidedly quirky French black comedy Deerskin down at the Watershed.
